Ileana Munoz-Renfroe's latest release A Wisterious Witch is now available!

Welcome to amazing author Ileana Munoz-Renfroe! I had the pleasure of beta reading A Wisterious Witch and loved it! I've read a few of Ileana's other books and look forward to reading about Raul in Raul's Demise. Join me in a fun interview!

For the longest time, Ileana Muñoz-Renfroe wanted to be an author. Almost twenty years later, and after raising two children and owning numerous businesses, she decided to take the plunge.

It started in a Café in Paris. The idea of Rosa popped into her head, and the stories and characters became real. Since two of her passions are the paranormal and high-end fashion, she found a way to combine them and created Rosa The Cuban Psychic Mysteries. This series brings together her Cuban and American culture to make for a fun cozy mystery story.

Book 1 – A Fashionable Fate and Book 2 – A Parisian Bait are available on Amazon.

She is also hard at work writing books 3 and 4 of Rosa The Cuban Psychic Mysteries, as well as, several new series. A Tarot and Vintage Caravan Mysteries features Abuela Nana and her newly acquired vintage caravan. Candeedo Brewdinkle Series involves Candeedo, a retired spy and cipher expert enjoys solving mysteries in the quaint town of Killian Cove alongside his companion Bartholomew – a Sphynx.

Another new series, Las Cubanitas, has Rosa and her best friends – Maruchi, Alexandra, Ellie, and Caridad solving mysteries together. Every new adventure to exotic locations brings about – what else – murder.

She has delved into the Children’s book genre. The Gizmo Adventures, book 1 “Gizmo Welcomes a New Baby” is bilingual - English and Spanish. Book 2 is in progress.

Recently, she finished three separate short story collaborations. A Wisterious Witch, Book 1 of A Wisterious Bay Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series is due November 1, 2022 and is on Pre-Order on Amazon. There’s also, Ghostly Gift due December 7, 2022. This book is also on Pre-Order on Amazon. Finally, there’s Raul’s Demise.  This book is the prequel to Rosa The Cuban Psychic Paranormal Cozy Mysteries and available for free only through Prolific Works.

When she is not writing, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, reading, entertaining, and listening to music.

Do your characters come before or after your plot?

My characters always come before I start a story. An idea will pop up in my mind and I'll find myself thinking of the names of potential characters. Then they just come to life. I have found that my characters have a voice of their own.

How do you choose a villain and how do you make them human?

I think of specific personalities that would make the reader hate the character. Then I develop those characters by being as specific as possible in my description of them. The main thing is to make them seem to real you will actually dislike them as you are reading the story.

Do your reading choices reflect your writing choices?

Sometimes, my reading choices do reflect my writing style. I tend to read a lot of paranormal, mystery, and cozy mysteries. So, you'll find that I tend to write more in the paranormal/cozy genre with a twist bringing together various elements from the stories I read.

Which type of characters are your favorite to write?

My favorite characters to write are those that are spunky, a bit cooky, and express a substantial amount of Cuban flair in their behavior and how they speak.

What are you working on now?

Oh, boy that's a loaded question. Let's see, I am currently working on Murder in The Campground - Book 1 (A Tarot and VIntage Caravan Cozy Paranormal Mystery Series). Abuela Nana has decided to take a year sabbatical from her cafe - La Misteriosa Cafe on Colten Island and travel with her Miami Coastal Caravan Club only to find herself deep in murder after purchasing a vintage caravan, that comes with an unexpected guest.
I'm also working on If Walls Could Talk Book 1 (Lolita Restoration Cozy Paranormal Mystery Series). Lolita has been asked by her aunt to restore an old abandoned home that turns up to have a dead body in the wall. However, that's not the only problem. Lolita and her BFF are being blocked by an unseen entity that is determined to keep the body hidden.  She must not only contend with the ghost but also figure out whose's body is in the wall and if her aunt is involved.
Then there's Ciphers, Mobsters & A Sphynx Book 1 (Candeedo Brewdinkle Cozy Mystery Series). Candeedo a retired spy wants to spend his days solving puzzles and hanging out with his companion Bartholomew, a very vocal sphynx. The problem is that when he goes to pick up his monthly book with a bookmark that contains a cipher he must solve, he finds Norman the proprietor missing, and a dead body in the bookstore with the same book he was supposed to pick up next to the body. The bookmark is missing and now the Mafia has arrived in town. Candeedo may just have to come out of retirement if he wants to solve this mystery.
There are a few others, but I'll keep that for another time.

What sort of research do you do for your work?

Sometimes I actually try to visit the location. For example, in the book If Walls Could Talk, I actually visited an abandoned town in Ohio. As a matter of fact, the lady dressed in black on the cover of the book is actually someone who lived in that town. With the permission of her daughter, I have included her picture on my cover. Other times I research online an idea or thought until I'm satisfied that it can be used in my stories. Or, on my travels, I take pictures of different buildings or go to cemeteries and read the tombstones, learn the history of the area, and then make up a story based on what I imagine could happen.

The only way to make certain she’s not framed for the murder is to find the killer and figure out why anyone would want to kill the head of her coven.

Beverly Rearick releases Party, Potions & Peril, a paranormal cozy mystery.

Welcome to Beverly Rearick, Paranormal Cozy Mystery Author.

Beverly A. Rearick is the author of paranormal cozy mysteries. The paranormal has always been something she's been interested in since she was young. She even did some paranormal investigations at one time and even worked as an executive producer for a radio show about the paranormal. Besides her love of the paranormal, she is also a lover of anything to do with bats. You will find a bat somewhere in every story she writes.

Do your characters come before or after your plot?

My characters always come before the plot. To me, the characters are what make the plot. I get this image of certain people and scenes. From there I start to fill in the blanks. Once I know the characters well enough, they direct the plot.

When I started planning my current series, I though about what I always wanted to see in a main character. I’ve never read a paranormal cozy mystery where the main character didn’t have any magical abilities, but lived among paranormals. I knew that is what story I wanted to tell. Samantha Reitenbach, the main character in my Moonflower Mysteries Series, came from this. I knew I wanted someone who had to deal with everybody around her being a paranormal in one type or another and being almost an outsider. She just grew from there. And know she is such a part of my imagination that she actually takes over the stories as I write, telling me how things are going to happen. It can really cause havoc on a plot because I will need to go back and change a bunch of things after the first draft is written.

How do you choose a villain and how do you make them human?

My villains usually come from the main victim in the story, but not always. Typically, I will think about who is going to die first in the story and figure out which characters have a reason to want that person dead. Sometimes there can be a very long list.

Once I know who will be the killer, I take a close look at them. What caused this person to get to the point where they are willing to kill? I don’t like to have a villain who doesn’t have a real reason, at least in their mind, to kill the person. The reason for killing needs to be more than just they are a bad person. And I try to show this reason throughout the book by the way they act and the things they say.

Do your reading choices reflect your writing choices?

Absolutely. I read cozy mysteries exclusively. From the moment I read my first one, I fell in love. I’ve always loved mysteries and trying to figure out who did it. To the point that my family don’t enjoy watching shows with me because I’ll guess the answer before the show gets too far in.

Cozy mysteries give you the mystery, along with a dose of love and laughter. It’s nothing for me to be reading and just start laughing because of something that happens in a book. The more I laugh, the more I love the story.

I occasionally will read other genres, but cozy mysteries are my go to. Looking at my list of books I’ve read in the past years, the list is 75% cozy mysteries. And when I finally decided to take my writing career from just a hobby to a profession, I knew I wanted to write in this genre. And of course, I had to go in the paranormal route because that has been my interest for as long as I can remember.

Which type of characters are your favorite to write?

In my series, there is a group of older paranormals who meet every morning at the diner to gossip. They are called the Morning Club. They are a mixture of people I have met throughout my life, including one who is close to my heart. I love writing their interaction with the main character because it is always fun, while also full of clues.

What are you working on now?

I always have several projects going at once.

My second book in the Moonflower Mysteries Series, Construction, Curses & Crime, is in the final revision before sending off to my fabulous editor. I’m going through the comments I got from my beta reading group to make sure there are no loose ends and everything makes sense.

I just finished writing the first draft of Reunion, Runes & Revenge, the third book in the series. Now I am getting ready to go back through and try to get the beginning to match the ending since halfway through the book my main character took over and the story went in a completely different direction I had planned.

Party, Potions & Peril mentioned an incident that happened with my main character when she was a teenager and I’m working on a short story to give the readers the complete story. I’m hoping to have the finished soon.

And, finally, I am plotting out future books in the series and also starting the initial preparations for a whole new series.

What sort of research do you do for your work?

Reading other cozy mysteries is the one research I do that I enjoy more than anything else because I’ve been an avid reader since I learned to read.

But I am a researcher at heart. I love learning new things. I researched runes for Reunion, Runes & Revenge. Just recently I researched growing mushrooms for a story. It all depends on the story and what I need to know. I try not to go too deep into the research though because I can spend too much looking into a topic and not focusing on the book.

PARTY, POTIONS & PERIL

Birthday parties can be deadly.

Samantha Reitenbach is the only non-magical witch in the small, paranormal town of Moonflower. Being a single parent while working at her great-aunt’s diner was never how she imagined her life turning out, but this is where she ended after her husband’s death.

A huge party to celebrate her daughter turning fourteen turns deadly when a body is discovered in her grandmother’s potion room. To make matters worse, the handsome vampire sheriff believes Samantha’s best friend is the killer.

Between raising a teenager, a cursed talking bat, the sheriff breathing down her neck, and an old flame, can Samantha find the killer before her innocent friend is charged with murder?

Party, Potions & Peril is the first paranormal cozy mystery in the Moonflower Mystery Series.

Andris Bear talks about Enter the Witch and Witchful Thinking

Welcome to Bestselling Paranormal Romance and Cozy Paranormal Mystery author, Andris Bear!

Bestselling Paranormal Romance and Cozy Paranormal Mystery author, Andris Bear, weaves snark and dark wit into her sexy tales of demons, angels, witches, and hot cops. She loves sexy, bullheaded heroes, dark chocolate, and a strong cup of coffee. Get in the way of any one of those and there will be violence.

Though she currently resides near Raleigh, NC with her own dashing hero and their mini villains, you can find her on Facebook, Twitter, and Bookbub

What would you say are your strengths as an author?

Humor. There is nothing better than making others laugh. I tried writing a dark and serious book once, but just didn't work. At all.

How often do you write, and do you write using a strict routine?

When I'm in book mode, I have to write every day. If I take even one day off, it'll turn into two. Then three. I'm really good at finding other things to do.

Five years from now, where do you see yourself as a writer?

Probably in the same place, doing the same thing, with just a bigger backlist. Or signing a movie deal that will make me a millionaire. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

If you could offer once piece of advice to a novice writer, what would it be?

I think it's the same advice any writer would give. In the first draft, nothing matters. Sit down. Write. Ignore the mistakes and enjoy the process.

What would you consider to be the best compliment a reader could give your book?

I read it without break, then got the next one.

What are you working on now?

I'm working on the final book in my Witches of Whisper Grove series, which will tie up all loose ends and launch a new series! I'm very excited about what's coming next!

ENTER THE WITCH

A laugh-out-loud Cozy Paranormal Mystery!

Some witches are born to their craft. Some of us fall face-first into it.

Evangeline Winther has just landed her dream job as a librarian in Whisper Grove, NC. The fact that she also discovered she’s the lost heir to a centuries-old coven of witches is not so dreamy.

She can’t control her powers.

She can’t cast a spell.

And—let down of a lifetime—no one rides a broom.

But she does have the love of her hot mechanic and her ever faithful—if somewhat annoying—cat. Things are looking up.

Until someone runs her off the road.
Now she must figure out who—or what—is trying to kill her.
