“This here place? Worse than the backside of Hades.” ~ Hank Varney

First let me say, this here trip to Slagton weren’t my idea. This place is chock full of bad company done helped itself to a double dose of bad medicine.

Slagton needs cleanin’, accordin’ to Miss Clem, and I know the crew to do it. I’m one of ’em. Hank Varney’s the name. Miss Clem and me, along with the two Sidewinders from Santa Fe—we’ll get the sharp-toothed vermin cleared out.

Now, some people say I’m lucky, but I don’t know if’n it’ll do me any good, what with the army of trouble me an’ the crew are facin’. If’n we don’t live through it, well, there goes Deadwood. Maybe even the whole of the Black Hills.

We’ll all be down the privy hole then, lookin’ up at the Backside of Hades.

PRAISE FOR THE DEADWOOD SERIES:

A Fantastic new series you will Love’ by Enchanted

I wasn't sure what to expect from a visit to the past world of the Deadwood Violet Parker lives in. I am amazed at how real it feels!. Will definitely read more!!!,” by LisaReadsALot

Other Books in The Series:

There was a lot to love about the book. The characters are deep and interesting. The authors do a great job of giving the story an authentic wild west feel. The pacing was good and kept me turning the page_ Markus Matthews

I guess I'm hooked on Ann Charles books, especially her Deadwood series. They're quick reads, about 300 pgs but with murder mystery, romance, paranormal situations and comedy, interesting eccentric characters... they've got it all _ Polly Picklez

Like Paranormal, Western, Mysteries or a mix containing all of them, you'll like this book. Western comes first with 2 guys riding into old Deadwood circa early mining days. Supernatural strikes next with a nasty critter. Mystery unfolds as the expected person is missing. You will like this book as read alone, but you will love it if you read the series in order! Start with "Life at the Coffin Joint", written by 2 of my favorite authors _ Morgue Rabbit

Sweet, touching and funny all the way through. I loved every moment! _ Black Hills Belle

Announcing The Tangled Stars by Saskatchewan author Edward Willett

Con-man, cop, and a talking cat who becomes a starship captain at the heart of twelfth novel for DAW Books by Saskatchewan author Edward Willett

A con-man, a female cop on the moon with secret revolutionary leanings, and a genetically modified, AI-uplifted talking cat who eventually becomes a starship captain are at the heart of The Tangled Stars, the twelfth novel by Saskatchewan author Edward Willett for New York’s DAW Books, one of the world’s premiere publishers of science fiction and fantasy.

More than a century ago, the network of MASTTs, the space-time tunnels that made interstellar travel possible, violently collapsed, the backlash destroying a lot of the solar system’s space-based infrastructure. Cooper “Coop” Douglas, a thief and conman, is in serious debt to outer-system crime-lord Eric Galioto. While trying to salvage a valuable chunk of a space station destroyed by the backlash, Coop makes a startling discovery: MASTT Primus, the tunnel that used to lead to New Earth, is open again. That raises an intriguing possibility: Coop could flee the solar system and his debt to Galioto and make a new life—and possibly fortune—around another star.

Accompanied by his first mate, the wisecracking, AI-uplifted, genetically modified cat Thibauld, Coop sets out to “liberate” the solar system’s only remaining functioning starship from an Earthside museum, enlisting the help of Laysa Grey, a former-lover-turned-cop on Luna. Along the way, he is pursued by Galioto and dogged by law enforcement and thugs.

And beyond MASTT Primus, the tangled stars await . . .

Edward Willett is the award-winning author of more than sixty books of science fiction, fantasy and non-fiction for readers of all ages. He's also host of the Aurora Award-winning podcast The Worldshapers, featuring conversations with science fiction and fantasy authors about the creative process, and owner and publisher of Shadowpaw Press, which publishes new work by established and emerging authors and new editions of notable, previously published work.

His previous DAW novels include Marseguro (winner of Canada’s top science fiction award, the Aurora Award, for Best Long-Form Work in English), and its sequel, Terra Insegura (an Aurora finalist); Magebane (written as Lee Arthur Chane); the Masks of Aygrima fantasy trilogy (written as E.C. Blake); the stand-alone science fiction novels Lost in Translation and The Cityborn, and the three-book Worldshapers series. Willett is also the author of The Shards of Excalibur modern-day YA fantasy series, originally published by Coteau Books, and Star Song, a finalist for the 2022 Aurora Award for Best Young Adult Novel, among several others. His YA fantasy Spirit Singer won a Saskatchewan Book Award and he’s been a finalist many times. He lives in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Cyber attack technology and video game realism – Say it isn’t so! The Enigma Gamers by Charles Breakfield and Rox Burkey

The Enigma Gamers

Book Seven in the Enigma Series

Cyber attack technology and video game realism –

Say it isn’t so????

By the critically acclaimed writing duo of Charles Breakfield and Rox Burkey

The book is published by ICABOD Press and is available worldwide across all platforms!

The Enigma Series uses the 7th book, The Enigma Gamers, to expand the series with a grittier, feet-on-the-street, diverse group of men and women carefully selected by Julie and Juan to work on special assignments all over the world. The challenges they face in these assignments are potentially more far reaching that they ever imagined. Gone are the days of pixelated sprites and simple wired controllers. It’s the twenty-first century, and video game playing has undergone a complete evolution. With high-def graphics and intuitive sensory controls, gamers are enjoying a level of realism and immersion never before experienced. However, when the line between the real and cyber worlds becomes blurred, this digital landscape provides new social predators with opportunities to unleash terror and pain on unsuspecting victims. Businesses, cities, and commonly used services might believe they are immune, but then their world goes sideways as a grotesque ransomware demand is spilled across their data screen. Led by Julie and Juan, the fledgling CATS-Cyber Assassins Technology Services team is committed to avenging and administering justice to evil doers in every corner of the real and virtual worlds. The CATS team is the next generation of hunters in the cat and mouse game of cyber warfare. Within the Enigma series, the CATS team will continue to evolve and uses front-line techniques, which stretches every resource at their disposal to face off against a sinister new world of high-tech crimes.

What Readers Are Saying:

“Charles Breakfield and Rox Burkey have successfully blended three plot points aka enigmas: romance, technology hacking, and death threats in their latest literary adventure. Their novel entitled The Flower Enigma is Book Five in the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles. Both Breakfield and Burkey are two of the founding members of The Underground Authors. Breakfield and Burkey write as a team and have published a series of books in their Enigma Series. The Flower Enigma is their first cozy mystery, a definite page turner, indeed”, _ Book Editor

This is the fifth book in the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles. And like Cabot Cove in the TV series Murder She Wrote, it’s a lovely little town, but a lot of people get killed there. If you’ve enjoyed the Enigma series, here’s another to like. If you haven’t read any of those, this is a great start. I highly recommend it” _ Pennant Pub

EXPOSED, Hollywood secrets, Deadly reveals, by Anna J. Stewart

EXPOSED

Circle of the Red Lily Book One

Hollywood secrets. Deadly reveals.

The newest thriller by USA TODAY bestseller

 Anna J Stewart

Set for release this November and published by CAEZIK Romance, an imprint of Arc Manor Books!

“Atmospheric, vivid and intense, this is modern romantic noir at its best.”

~NYTimes Bestselling author Jayne Ann Krentz

Working as a Hollywood photographer means Riley Temple has seen it all. But then she finds herself staring at the chilling image of a dead woman. When her questions about the film lead to violence, she reluctantly turns to the only person who can help. Detective Quinn Burton, the police commissioner’s son. Her history with the LAPD is complicated, her trust in authority, tenuous. But to find those responsible and protect those closest to her, she’s willing to do anything. Even trust a cop.

After more than a decade on the job, Quinn knows a dangerous situation when he sees it and Riley Temple is up to her ears in trouble. But not for the reason she thinks. The pictures she’s stumbled on call into a question a notorious murder conviction—one that powerful people have a vested interest in keeping in place. Seeing this case through means betraying someone: his job, his family, or the woman he’s falling in love with.

As old secrets are revealed, Quinn and Riley find themselves targeted by members of a secret society that has long maintained violent control over Hollywood’s powerful elite. A society that, until now, has remained hidden in the shadows. A society that will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.

“… a page-turner with images that will linger long after you finish the book.” ~Academy Award Nominated Actress & Author Meg Tilly
